Unique concept
This travel concept caters to the growing market of travellers, who wish to combine their personal sporting interests
with travel activities in exotic settings. The concept is build up around an annual marathon event, which features
professional race logistics, top-notch security and medical surveillance, accredited organisers, and an utmost challenging course.

Albatros Travel has been organising these events for almost ten years, and several of these marathons, such as the Great Wall Marathon in China, have now become recognised events on the international running calendar. Despite geographical disparities, all these events share a same modus operandi, and the same unique setup.

Big Five Marathon is Albatros Travel's latest development in this area, and also one of the only marathons in the world
to be held among the wildlife of the African savannah. No fences, no rivers, nothing at all separates the runners from the notorious African game.

Challenging race
Big Five Marathon is an annual event that takes place in the Entabeni Game Reserve, which is located in South Africa's Limpopo province.

In these fascinating settings, we have selected a route that will prove challenging to even the most experienced long distance runners. Covering a variety of surfaces, ranging from deep sand to slippery rocks, the route heads right through the habitat of all the famous big five animals - Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhinoceros, and Buffalo.

For the race participants, the biggest challenge will be the extremely steep track going up the gorge, which separates the lower and upper escarpments of the game reserve. Over the course of three kilometres, the runners will experience a 500-metre increase in altitude, and sloped sections of over 40 degrees.

The marathon and all race logistics live up to the highest standards, including time keeping, accreditation, and coverage.
